Location, Kentish Town, London. Salary: £30,000 pro-rata. 28 hours per week, 6 month fixed-term contract (sabbatical cover). Closing date for applications: 16/01/09.
We are looking for an experienced Media Officer to take responsibility for all aspects of our media relations. As sole press and media professional in the organisation, we are looking for someone keen to take on a range of work, including taking the lead in planning our media strategy for the future and maximising our media coverage to increase awareness of the issues facing single parent families. The postholder will also work directly with single parents willing to tell their story, undertaking research and writing press releases and articles.
The successful candidate will have experience working as a journalist or media officer, with a proven track record of obtaining media coverage, and preferably an understanding of the issues facing single parents, including poverty, welfare reform and parenting.
One Parent Families|Gingerbread is the leading charity working to promote the interests and welfare of Britain's 1.9 million single parent families. We help single parents achieve their ambitions by providing support services and campaigning to influence the policies that affect their lives. This is an exciting time for the charity, as we launch our new brand in January, and the Media Officer will be an integral part of the brand strategy.
The post reports to the Director of Policy, Advice and Communication.
