Calls to the 0800 018 5026 are free with an Orange, Virgin or 3 mobile phone, a landline or Vonage internet phone. If you do not have any of these at home you can call free from any BT phone box. We encourage the use of Typetalk.

The Helpline provides independent, confidential information and advice. It is run by Gingerbread: National Council for One Parent Families in partnership with One Parent Families Scotland.

The freephone Helpline operates across England and Wales. The Helpline number for Scotland is 0808 801 0323 - which is free to all mobiles.

Monday 9am - 5pm

Tuesday 9am - 5pm

Wednesday 9am - 8pm

Thursday 9am - 5pm

Friday 9am - 5pm

Our Advice line hours (for more detailed enquiries on money issues):

Every caller to the Lone Parent Helpline is treated as an individual and our help is tailored as much as possible to fit their needs:

'I got advice straight away over the phone and they also sent me a booklet. This was great as I could go over the information again when I had five minutes peace and quiet.'

'I was sent a list of organisations in my area. I don't have a phone at home so being able to call in and talk to people face to face without having to travel too far was perfect.'

'I was in so much debt I didn't know where to turn. I got information and they said if I called back at a certain time I could speak to an adviser. She was really helpful and was able to go through and help me figure out what help I could get.'
