If your youngest child is aged 12, or will be 12 in November, and you are claiming Income Support, Jobcentre Plus will write to you to explain the changes that are taking place.

After November (for some people, it may be several months later) they will ask you to attend a Work Focused Interview, and, unless you are still entitled to Income Support, ask you to make a new claim for Jobseeker's Allowance or Employment Support Allowance (this replaces Incapacity Benefit from November 2008).

You may want to think about whether you are caring for a child with a disability and could claim Disability Living Allowance, or if you have a disability or long-standing health condition yourself and could claim Employment and Support Allowance.
