What will happen if I don’t meet the conditions for claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance?

Benefits changes factsheet 2008

If you fail to meet the conditions for claiming Jobseeker's Allowance, a decision maker within Jobcentre Plus can decide that you should be sanctioned, and lose your entitlement to benefit for a number of weeks.

Your Jobseeker's Allowance can be stopped completely, but you can apply for a hardship payment so that you receive 60 per cent of what you are entitled to. If this happens to you, get advice from the Lone Parent Helpline (0800 018 5026).
