It can be complicated to work out what your income will be when you're having a baby or adopting a child. This factsheet outlines the different types of financial help available and the key dates tells you what to do when, to make sure your family doesn't miss out.

If you have come from abroad make sure you know what your immigration status is, and whether making a claim for benefit may harm any application you are making to the Home Office. If you are unsure or think this may affect you, get specialist advice before claiming any benefits or other help with living expenses.
