This factsheet explains the different options for making arrangements for payment of child maintenance, how the Child Support Agency (CSA) calculates child maintenance and how to deal with the CSA when you have made an application. It is written for lone parents, mothers and fathers, who are the main carer for their child or children.

The CSA calls the parent who is the main carer (that is, the parent the children live with most or all of the time) the 'parent with care' and the other parent the 'non-resident parent'. Come to an agreement between yourself and the other parent

Ask the Child Support Agency to calculate and/or collect maintenance on your behalf

Ask the court to make an order for payment of maintenance
