Making arrangements for child maintenance factsheet

For more details on all aspects of how the Child Support Agency deals with applications, see the Child Support Handbook published by the Child Poverty Action Group, which should be available at a library in your area.

The following are published by the Lone Parent Helpline and can be obtained by calling the freephone Lone Parent Helpline on 0800 018 5026:
  • Maintenance through the CSA - a detailed guide to how the CSA works, including information about how applications that were made before March 2003 are dealt with.
  • Opting out - how to stop the Child Support Agency from acting and what happens if you are interviewed about why you do not want the Child Support Agency to be involved when you have claimed Income Support or income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
  • Appeals, changes and complaints - what happens when there is a change in circumstances, if you disagree with a decision and what to do if you have received a poor service.
  • Maintenance and the courts (England and Wales only) - who can apply to the courts for an order about child maintenance and how these are dealt with.
