One Parent Families|Gingerbread workshop at 'Reaching out to Men and Fathers' conference

One Parent Families|Gingerbread is delighted to have participated in a National Childbirth Trust and Sewing Seeds conference on Fathers at Manchester Town Hall on 20th September 2007, through facilitating two workshops on working with fathers.

On the main stage Sewing Seeds dads campaigner Barrington Reeves made a powerful presentation that reminded delegates that fathers' services have to appeal to MEN. Speaking from the heart, Barrington reminded delegates that there needs to be a fundamental shift in perception to include men. In an informal meeting before the conference Barrington also suggested that it is important that women should have the confidence to stand up and talk about father's issues.

During One Parent Families|Gingerbread's workshops participants shared and noted what they had done for fathers. People recalled lone dads they had met, the positive things they had learned from them and the ways in which they had been able to offer constructive help.

Participants also exchanged knowledge about what's going on for fathers around the region.
