At present, only half (52 per cent) of all families where there is a non-resident parent report having an order or agreement to pay child maintenance in place. Forty-eight percent of all eligible families report having no maintenance arrangement in place at all.
Where there is an order or agreement, a third of families (33 per cent) report they do not actually receive child maintenance payments. Among families with an agreement who do receive child maintenance payments, the majority (63 per cent) reported having a voluntary arrangement . Overall, only around one in three eligible families receive financial support from the non-resident parent.
At present, only 62 per cent of CSA cases in which maintenance is being levied are actually being paid.
