This paper considers the position of lone parents and their children, in response to the proposals published by the London Skills and Employment Board (LSEB).

It also considers and makes reference to the interim proposals from the London Child Poverty Commission (LCPC)[1].

Employment, skills and poverty are closely related issues for lone parents; this response first considers why this group should be a priority for both bodies, before outlining what we believe lone parent families need in order to improve their prospects in the labour market, and their chances of bringing up their families free from poverty.

We believe that the strategy produced by the LSEB and that produced by the LCPC must have shared aims and integrated delivery in order to be successful.
