Manifesto 06/07 - Our goals for the future

Childcare is essential to help lone parents make choices about work and training yet there is still only one place available for every four children under eight years old. Even where childcare is available for many lone parents the high cost means that work is simply not a worthwhile option.

The Government must invest more rapidly in the creation of a national network of Children's Centres, providing an affordable, high quality childcare place for every child who needs one. Those parents who want to enter work or training need more help with the costs of childcare through the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit.
