Budget 2008

The deadline for the Government's commitment to halving child poverty by 2010 is rapidly approaching. This promise is particularly important to the half of one-parent families in which a child is currently growing up poor. As a member of the Campaign to End Child Poverty, we urge the Chancellor to set out clearly in this Budget how the Government intends to meet the child poverty target for 2010. We also urge the Chancellor to state how much the government will invest in tax credits and benefits to meet the target, which the Campaign estimates will need to be in the region of £4 billion.
