Blog it! - From Together Magazine, issue 4
Before you jump into writing a blog you might want to check out what other people are doing. A good place to start would be technorati.com, blogarama.com, blogwise.com, all listings sites for blogs. You should also look at the Blogging Brits, Blogging Mommies and Blog Mums webrings – the former all blogs written by British people, the latter two by, surprise, mothers. Some of my favourite blogs by parents are theobvious.typepad.com, themommyblog.com, amberbamberboo.com and, of course, mine, giagia.blogspot.com.
If you don’t have a computer at home or work, Internet access is available free at your local library or at an internet cafe for a fee.
If you have no computer skills at all and would like to learn, phone Learn Direct on 0800 101 901 or Open Scotland on 0800 77 1234 for advice on where you can take a class locally. If you are receiving certain benefits or tax credits you may be able to get help with the course fee. Phone your benefits or tax credits office for advice.
You can get a free online journal at Blogger.com. They have an easy step-by-step guide to point and click your way to your very own space on the web. You can post up digital photgraphs, create hyperlinks and even create audio-posts.
The more adventurous or those of you with some basic web skills can build your blog through movabletype.com, typepad.com or livejournal.com. These ones may require a subscription fee, basic web and HTML coding skills or your own server space.
Now all you need is something to say!
