The Taste of Wales - it’s gingerbread...

13/05/08 It must be the tastiest map of Wales ever, created from nearly 400 individual gingerbread people.
The delicious diagram was created by One Parent Families|Gingerbread and the BBC Wales Promotions and Branding Team as part of a campaign to highlight the opportunities for charities to use the team's services on TV, radio and online to tell the public about their work.
Every year, BBC Wales offers a selection of broadcast slots, along with its production expertise, so that each charity chosen can have a professional plug.
The gingerbread map was created for the charity by One Parent Families|Gingerbread, which is inviting new members and offering its free information and support services to single parents across Wales. Shot on the beach at Aberporth, the short film, which has been screened on BBC One Wales and BBC Two Wales this week, features actress Lauren Phillips, and her cast of hundreds, baked by Harrisons in Newcastle Emlyn and Fedwen in Cardigan.
The organisation's spokesperson in Wales, Leoni Philp, says she loved the idea. "I think it's absolutely fantastic. It really embodies the spirit of One Parent Families|Gingerbread in that it shows individuals coming together to provide a united front - and shows One Parent Families|Gingerbread providing a stronger voice to the thousands of lone parents we help every year," she says.
"There are 90,000 lone parents in Wales, and we wanted to get the message out that there is one place lone parents can come for free advice, support and guidance."
As a charity, Leoni added, One Parent Families|Gingerbread could never have afforded such a promotion and is delighted that the BBC Wales charity scheme has given it the chance to reach hundreds of thousands of people in one go. "We'd like to thank the scheme and the people from BBC Wales who worked alongside us to make this possible. It's fantastic to be given this opportunity to reach so many parents who could benefit from our services," she says.
