Personal Finance and One Parent Families: The Facts

Our latest publication in the informative Facts series provides up-to-date evidence on all aspects of lone parents' financial circumstances, including financial exclusion, debt, savings and assets, and pension provision.

This new edition to our 'Facts' series looks at the personal finances of lone parents in Britain today and discusses what policies are needed to improve lone parents' position.

Lone parents are more likely to be financially excluded than couples with children, and they use fewer financial products such as insurance and bank accounts.

Lone parents have more debts than other family types.

Lone parents are saving less than couples with children. One study found that two-thirds of lone parents could not afford to save £10 a month.

Lone parents are also less likely to be provided for in old age.
